A Royal Mail Special Delivery is guaranteed next day delivery , this must be signed for , failure to obtain a signature or a P739 left ( no answer) means you can claim against Royal Mail for failure to meet their contract .
Unlike the rubbish above any SD's left unattended and not signed for would be a sacking offence.

Yes

The difference is that Recorded Delivery only insures upto £34 (100 x first class, same as normal post) and you can send 2nd class. Special delivery is insured upto £500 and is either a next day before 1pm or before 9am service (you have a choice of service) and can be tracked whilst in transit.

Due to the strike last week the Special Delivery Guarantee was suspended during the strike and a day either side of it, but items should still arrive pretty quickly

Not always - we get stuff here special delivery all the time just dumped on the doorstep.
