This assumes knowledge and sacrifice are both quantifiable amounts, but they don't quantify well. you could define sacrifice in terms of money, or one's time invested, etc.

Yes, My Dear ,
Knowledge also being an attainment requires due sacrifices.
To start with as a kid, if you want to top the Class, the School, the University - you definately have to give time to your studies and in the process sacrificing a lot - May be Friends, May be Movies, May be A good sleep during the night, May be TV Chatters n what not.
The Higheast form of Knowledge is knowing the Self and further knwoing God- which is the ultimate and for this you have to sacrifise your self .
Ig interested, ask another question and I would be pleased to elaborate further.
Blessings

Yes, it requires sacrifice of the highest pleasures of life to attain the highest knowledge. There are two ways in life- one that leads to pleasure and the other that leads to knowledge.
Hope this sheds some light on the question.

Yes.... of course by sacrifice I mean giving up or letting go.... knowledge does not come in until we let go of false belief or ignorant faith.
The highest form of knowledge is attained by the sacrifice of ego. Absolute truth and ego are not compatible with each other... ego would always colour the truth.

Not really so.
This stupid feeling of sacrifice arises due to compelling oneself to abstain from getting stuck to one's own senseless material attachments.
There was a time, in ancient India, when knowledge was by observing others. An example to illustrate this would be , a very logical clue to the fact that despite the history of human habitation in India since several thousands of years, the population explosion took place only in the last century. Enough proof that very marginal percentage of people got married, though almost all the marriages normally yielded atleast a dozen children ! Majority of them had got the knowledge about the outcome of married life, without having to actually face the proverbial rolling pin !

Anything that one loves requires sacrifice in a contingent world of limited goods. The sacrifice required of us to attain higher forms of knowledge is a humility born of one's detchment from the desires of the ego. It is the ego which asserts that existence is a problem to be solved, rather than a profound mystery that will always be greater than ourselves.

Not always............:)
The Life Of The Student Of Knowledge Requires Simplicity and Sacrifice.!!
Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.
A little knowledge that acts is worth infinitely more than much knowledge that is idle.
If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it.
We have a hunger of the mind which asks for knowledge of all around us, and the more we gain, the more is our desire; the more we see, the more we are capable of seeing.
Knowledge is a process of piling up facts; wisdom lies in their simplification.
The first step towards knowledge is to know that we are ignorant.
These days people seek knowledge, not wisdom. Knowledge is of the past, wisdom is of the future.

the highest form of knowledge will give u more intuition and insights than the average person. the highest form of knowledge requires humility and self-control. the highest form of knowledge is only attained through deep thinking, perfection of character and seeing things for what they are.
some shall have no sacrifices to mae while others will have thoughts and assumptions shattered like glass and it will be upto them to make it.

In a way, yes, because if you have to achieve knowledge of material world, if you want to achieve confidence in your knowledge you need time and for that you have to sacrifice other activity for wont of time.
In case of spiritual knowledge or the knowledge of 'Being' behind the existence you don't need to sacrifice but once you start being aware of 'IT' your desires will become less automatically, it is a side-effect.

Knowledge only sacrifices time -out of context.
In certain contexts knowledge may sacrifice something else (Like a relationship if you spend no time with partner, all time with books) .
If you spend more and more time in methods of study and gain of knowledge you will continue to improve.
Keep in mind, Time is the price you pay for -ANYTHING-. Time realy IS money.
