Why do the US play base ball and football, but not major sports like Rugby and Cricket?

and there is rugby in the state

I'm sorry but jimthar has it all wrong.. he says cricket is not popular in australia?? hahahah. Cricket is THE most popular sport in Australia
Japan, Korea, and Cuba have baseball leagues, many of the players you see in major league are from These countries
Rugby is not popular in America because it's a man's game , where the only protection the guys wear is a gum shield and a bit of tape to pin their ears back..that's it.. they are fearless
and if you ever watch the 6 nations rugby, you will regularly see guys standing on their own team mates heads just to get the ball back...
American audiences attention spans are limited when it comes to sports in general..that's whay they wanted to introduce 4 quarters into soccer instead of having two 45 minute halves
there are college teams that play sports from all over the world however, but not on mainstream tv
the Irish ex-pats play hurling and gaelic football,
it's just a shame that all american sports are so boring to watch, particularly football, and nascar , it's only basketball that has a worldwide appeal

Baseball is big in the USA, Canada, Japan, Korea and some small Latin American nations. Not very global compared to Cricket. Cricket has a World Cup, Baseball doesn't.
They play Rugby in America, but it's limited. Football is the only game they seem to compete in the world stage. They even hosted the World Cup in 1994.
They are best to stick to their own games, because they get soundly defeated playing anything else.

The guy below me said the US wins medals at Olympic games. That is in individual sports. If we played you in Football or Rugby, you would get severely beaten. How bad were you guys at the last Football World Cup? You were awful.

because they're not major sports. they're only played in europe. see many ppl in japan or australia playing cricket? um no. but they do play baseball. kinda like soccer. never really caught on here but we have some of the most watched sports in the world. baseball, football, basketball, hockey, nascar, golf, college football, wrestling(though thats not really a sport in my eyes) and rugby is just a slightly different version of football. so there you go.

well to us football and baseball are major sports. cricket and rugby diddn't catchon, just like baseball didn;t in europe. also most places don't have the right type of weather to play either sport. adn some places don't have the room. if notice cold climate places like europe or russia don't have baseball, but hot climate do, like cuba, america.
