What you need is a decompiler. See the link below. You must know before you start what language the code was written in.
Also the decompiler will not generate any helpful comments and variable names will be random name that have been generated, again not very helpful.

The best program to decompress files is Winrar, you can unzip all kind of files!(.zip, .rar, .7z, .iso, .tar, .jar, .cab, .gz, .ace, .uue, .bz2, etc...)

U cant extract much info from EXE's but Reshack will get most of it out.
