I couldn't find any information on it.. Most places simply don't acknowledge modern pennies for very much. You may want to check out a few forums for more info (check out this link for resources: http://www.telecoins.com/faq2.html#NEWSGROUPS ). Either way, you should hold onto it. Some pennies that were worthless 80 years ago are worth mucho money now, and in 10 or 20 years it could be worth something.

1980 Penny Value

I found no listing for a silver 1980 cent. It was altered outside the Mint, probably electroplated with silver or mercury. Value is face of a cent because it's considered damaged by hobbyists.

Sorry but you have an altered cent that was done after it left the mint. It has no collector value. People do the darnedest things to coins when they get bored I guess. It is however a good conversation piece so not all is lost.

What sort? Which country?

"Penny" isn't USA currency. USA has One Cent pieces.

It's easy enought to silver-plate things for use in jewelry, there's some value in that, but it's not coin-collector's value or currency value.
