When we here in SF had the game last week,we had something called a "Fan Fest" that was sponsed be DHL Shipping,and of course the "Home Run Hitting show" for ESPN that no one watched. I think both of those should have have been "free" to the public. Just open the doors and let them in.

Why should it be for free. Who is going to pay all the workers, vendors, security, camera man, etc.... What about all the flights, hotel and accomodations for all the players, coaches and umpires.

Last I checked MLB is a business like any other business, they have to turn a profit somehow. Even the NFL charges for promotions like the "NFL Experience" held during the SuperBowl week.

Interesting idea, but I expect you'd have an easier time convincing Seligula that:

a. MLB teams need an income cap to enforce parity;

b. the NL needs the DH, and the concept should be expanded to three -- one DH for the pitcher, one at-large for whichever defensive player has the weakest bat, and one extra inserted into the lineup just to enhance offense; or

c. the World Series should be expanded to nine games, with the first two played at a neutral site, so it can be more of a massive, corporate schmoozefest/bacchanalia every year in a way to enable reliable advance planning.

They should be free, that what a sponsor is all about. Putting your company name on an event to advertise isn't sponsoring so people can enjoy the event. Look at the Bowl Game that have been remaned for companies. Those companies aren't giving away tickets to the games either. S-P-O-R-T = G-R-E-E-D.

Next year you can put up the millions of dollars it takes to put on an event like this and let the fans in at no cost. Everyone will love you, I hope you have a lot of money.

Yes, the home run derby is just a glorified batting practice. The All Star Game itself is just an exibition game.

Should be free, but how would they control the huge crowds that would show up for a free event like that?

I'm not surprised. Heck, the Dodgers are talking about charging you to use their upgraded pee hole. (Sorry, it's the future upgraded pee hole). They just raised their parking fee 50%. Can you imagine that - 50%???
