Your best bet is to ask to be referred to a Reproductive Endocrinologist (an RE). They can best help you specifically to conceive with PCOS. You should receive a full line of tests to determine why you aren't conceiving (perhaps you aren't ovulating on your own, etc.).

I have PCOS and two children. We used fertility drugs (Clomid) to conceive our first child and our second child was a natural conception. We tried for 7 years on our own before finally seeing the specialist (RE) and conceived 4 months after I started seeing him.

I never took Metformin regularly... it does not work the same for everyone. Some women get ovulation while on it, others do not. Same goes for the weightloss aspect. Metformin seems to help women with PCOS *and* IR (Insulin Resistance) the most. Not all women with PCOS are IR and vice-verse. That being said, Metformin is worth a try - discuss it with your doctor! You never know if it will work for you specifically until you try it.

Best of luck to you!

I have PCOS- I am not trying to get pregnant- but if you are, YES you should go on metformin, it makes it so you start ovulating. I take metformin and it's been helping me for weight loss.

Are you doing anything for your PCOS?

I also take spironolactone AND I've been working really hard with my doctor to lose all the weight I've gained (I weight 208 now- I used to weight 225) so that I can have a good pregnancy with little/no complications.

If you are very overweight and not working to take care of your PCOS (meaning getting a gyno who KNOWS about PCOS) then you shouldn't even by trying.

If you aren't getting periods, you aren't ovulating, and won't get pregnant, end of story.

If you don't have a gyno, get one now (preferably one that knows about PCOS) and get your body in proper form to have a baby.

Good luck.

Edit to add- and don't worry, having PCOS doesn't mean you can't have children. My doctor also has PCOS and has kids. :)

Best thing to do is go to see a fertility doctor. I have a friend that has PCOS, she has tried IVF and failed, she is now on some herbal concoction which is meant to help her fall pregnant, but its been 3 months and still nothing.

Good luck.

Oh and to the first idiot that answered... its got nothing to do with sperm...

There are several things that can work, including metformin.

The first thing you need to do is be referred to your local fertility clinic. The doctors there can do tests for both you and your fiance, then they will work out a programme of treatment for you.

Good luck.
