Alternately what will be the taxi rates on the same route. I guess they cost a lot more than bus services.I will be arriving at Ambala by train.

Ambala and Shimla are well connected by bus. Haryana Roadways, Punjab Roadways, Delhi Roadways and Chandigarh Roadways ply buses on this route on a regular basis. These buses run through out the day.
Taxi fares vary as per season.

Here are the prices and times of the bus scheduals between Ambala and Shimla. Taxi's vary in rate due to private taxis being availabl. You make your own deal but it is considerably more expensive.

From Ambala,You can take many state transport buses to Delhi...you can find luxury buses too... generally buses going on NH1. These buses will reach Kashmiri Gate ISBT.
