If you live in LA, check out these sites:
http://www.centralcasting.org/LA/actors/registration.html
http://billdancecasting.com/
http://extrasaccess.com/
Central and Bill Dance charge a fee to join and yes that is normal for companies that hire extras. They are not 'agents' they are companies that do a service and that's that. ExtrasAccess is new to me. It's an offshoot of ActorsAccess which is more for people looking for principal work and even though I've never used it, I trust it because of the people it comes from. Getting started is free, I'm sure there's a fee along the way somewhere, but I've never used it so I don't know where that comes in.

good luck!

Well, auditioning for roles is how most extras are casted. They are the ones who dont get a speaking part, but still want to be in the show.

Most actors and actresses say that movie to the big movie areas like: New York or California, helps. They also saying hire a manager that can get you out there to other levels that normal citizens have difficult getting to.

It all depends on how far you want to go in the business. Staring in commericials helps popular faces see your ability as well. So many ways can help you get to being a extra but most actors and actresses move, so they can audition more and work.

Hope that helps??

Sorry you got so many stupid answers. It's not hard to be an extra. Do you live in LA or NY? If you do you there are lots of places you can sign up and only pay a minimal fee. It should only be 30 bucks or so. If not every city has an office of film and television. Google for the number and call yours. They should be able to help you out. If you want more help than that send me an e-mail and let me know where you live. I can spot a scammer. Luck to you and later for the imbeciles who gave you those dumb answers.

Find job listings in your area at craiglist.org, or join Central Casting if there's a branch near where you live.
