I have to admit, I agree with your statement that life has no meaning. People die in horrible accidents for no reason every minute of the day. Churches get wiped out during natural disasters, i.e. "Acts of God" just as much as non-religious buildings. There is no reason behind any of it. Open the newspaper, bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. There is no pattern or justice to it. Which is exactly what you'd expect if God did not exist.
"It would be very nice if there were a God who created the world and was a benevolent providence, and if there were a moral order in the universe and an after-life; but it is a very striking fact that all this is exactly as we are bound to wish it to be."
— Sigmund Freud
The invisible and nonexistent look much alike.
— Delos B. McKown
Man can't handle the unknown and the fact that life is meaningless, so he flails about trying to "create" meaning for the meaningless nature of his life. This creation he calls "God", and bestows every bizarre, evil, random and just plain tragic event on his fictional creation's shoulders. When asked for an explanation how an all-knowing, all-powerful, loving God can allow such evil and misery, the gullible believers are told that man is given "Free will" and if he chooses to be evil, that's not God's fault. When pressed further, we are told "God works in mysterious ways" - meaning everything happens for a reason, but even believers in the make-believe don't have enough imagination to figure it out. God's "chosen" people - oh he let 6 million of them die -but I'm sure he had a very good reason...
If God created flawed beings, how then can He go on to blame them for their flaws?
— James Halloran
We must question the story logic of having an all-knowing all-powerful God, who creates faulty Humans, and then blames them for his own mistakes.
— Gene Roddenberry, (1921-1991)
Strange...a God who could make good children as easily as bad, yet preferred to make bad ones; who made them prize their bitter life, yet stingily cut it short; mouths Golden Rules and forgiveness multiplied seventy times seven and invented Hell; who mouths morals to other people and has none himself; who frowns upon crimes yet commits them all; who created man without invitation, then tries to shuffle the responsibility for man's acts upon man, instead of honorably placing it where it belongs, upon himself; and finally with altogether divine obtuseness, invites this poor, abused slave to worship him!
— Mark Twain
Now the answer ... is plain, but it is so unpalatable that most men will not face it. There is no reason for life and life has no meaning.
— Somerset Maugham, (1874-1965)
The universe may have a purpose, but nothing we know suggests that, if so, this purpose has any similarity to ours.
— Bertrand Russell
I don't think we're here for anything, we're just products of evolution. You can say, “Gee, your life must be pretty bleak if you don't think there's a purpose,” but I'm anticipating a good lunch.
— James Watson (Nobel prize winner; co-discoverer of molecular structure of DNA)
Life has no meaning beyond this reality. But people keep searching for excuses. First there was reincarnation. Then refabrication. Now there's theories of life after amoebas, after death, between death, around death. Now you come back as a shirt, as a pair of pants. If Shirley MacLaine tells some brilliant guy, "There's an ethereal planet that sits right next to a delicatessen in Ethiopia and if you go shop there twice a day, you'll live forever," this putz believes it because he needs an answer from somebody. People call it truth, religion; I call it insanity, the denial of death as the basic truth of life. "What is the meaning of life?" is a stupid question. Life just exists. You say to yourself, "I can't accept that I mean nothing so I have to find the meaning of life so that I shouldn't mean as little as I know I do." Subconsciously you know you're full of ****. I see life as a dance. Does a dance have to have a meaning? You're dancing because you enjoy it.
— Jackie Mason
Life is but a momentary glimpse of the wonder of this astonishing universe, and it is sad to see so many dreaming it away on spiritual fantasy.
— Carl Sagan
Life should be lived so vividly and so intensely that thoughts of another life, or of a longer life, are not necessary.
— Marjory Stoneham Douglas
Do not fear death so much, but rather the inadequate life.
— Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956)
There is no cure for birth and death save to enjoy the interval.
— George Santayana (1863 - 1952)
Sacrificing the earth for paradise is giving up the substance for the shadow.
— Victor Hugo, (1802-1885)
From my rotting body,
flowers shall grow
and I am in them
and that is eternity.
— Edvard Munch (1863-1944)

The main reason for which " 1/3 of the population on this earth is forced to live on the streets" is because most of you people HAVE A LIFE WITH NO MEANING! You just go on babbling with "the pursuit of happiness" and think that means partying all the time and cutting a slack with work and that kind of stuff.
Happiness means giving a poor man a home, an unemployed a job, making Earth a better place to live on. Fighting against polution, against water contamination (did you see the movie "Erin Brokowich" with Julia Roberts?!), DOING SOMETHING WORTHWILE with your God given life. We have minds so that we MAY KNOW BETTER! Not just consume and waste!
So stop asking yourself stupid question and start asking what YOU can do so that your life is no longer so miserable that you may waste time in this matter! Stop asking and start doing! NOW!

You're partly right. HawiianBrian (the answerer just above) had a number of points.
Life has no reason, no purpose, no meaning, no nothing without a Creator. I agree with him and with Russell:
“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell
Our human nature won't allow us to accept that conclusion because it leads to suicide and insanity. I absolutely agree. and furthermore, I contend that HawiianBrian is no exception.
Here are the themes of some of his quotes:
1) Expressing an implied purpose, e.g. flowers will grow from my grave; for in his worldview, what the heck good are flowers?
2) Busy yourself so you won't think of these deep thoughts, e.g. "Life should be lived so vividly and so intensely that thoughts of another life, or of a longer life, are not necessary."
3) Focus on the little bits of happy feelings so you won't think deep thoughts, e.g."... I'm anticipating a good lunch".
Is God a false hope? If you accept that HawiianBrians formula for self-deception is an acceptable approach to purpose and meaning, then you need not hope for God. If you reject that dishonesty, then you will go insane or commit suicide if you don't hope for God. By the way, his main objections to God can be answered.

Yes I do disagree. Life has many meanings. One of them is to be a part of a family and share what you have with them. The other is to turn your attention to a larger scale and do what you can to help others. If you see that 1/3 of the population is suffering and you do nothing about it, then as my grandmother used to say "If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem." DO something for someone. Perhaps you can't help the world, but you can think globally and act locally. Surely there are people in need near you. Ever take dinner to a homeless person living in a doorway? I have. Ever participate in programs that help children? The elderly? Anyone? If you haven't it is no wonder your life has no meaning. PUT some meaning into it. Our Creator just puts us here ... what we do while we are here is up to us. Mother Theresa was poor and yet she managed to make her life meaningful. So have many others. Yours can be meaningful too if you get over the cynicism, get off the computer and do something good for someone! Go to New Orleans and build houses. They need the help. Volunteer for Habitat in your area. Help a family get on their feet. Read to children. Teach someone to read. Help an immigrant study to become an American citizen. Cook Thanksgiving dinner at a soup kitchen. Sitting and complaining about it does nothing. We are all a little bit like Job. Our Creator is watching to see what we do with the gift of life he has given us. Sounds like you are wasting yours. Pax - C

Nothing was created by God meaningless. Even all the bad things you've stated are meaningful. 1/3 of the population on this earth is forced to live on the streets.Drink contaminated water. Eat nothing. Why...? For those who wish to learn they make the world balance. Poorness should make the rich aware to be helpful. Unluckiness should trigger people to think how to do the best effort to get out from those things. We don't live just to 'live'. We ourselves who can make us meaningful enough to live. Come on...God has been very Kind to give us opportunity to live. Complete senses to enjoy the world- whatever it is. He gives us brain and heart to think and feel..why we just beg and grumble..?

I don't disagree at all. I completely understand and can relate to everything you have to say. i dont think we have any specific reason to live...being humans. in most of the animal kingdom, life is simply life and reproduction...for the survival of the species. but as humans, thing are very different. wat one views life as is not necessarily wat the other would view it as. life is very unfair...being kind to some while harsh to others. I do also believe that god is just a creation of the human mind as an explanation and comfort for what we don't know. i don't mean to challenge anyone's faith by that comment. i would like to believe in god..it's a nice thought. but it just doesn't make sense. I have a lot more that i wish to say just as you. All in all...all i can leave u with is just to make the best out of wat u have and do wat makes u happy..u only have one life. but it's easy for me to say...cause i have much to be thankful for. once again...life is unfair.
