it still happens. there are well-publicized compounds in Utah and Northern Arizona.

When you are raised and indoctrinated to believe in that, women will choose to do it.

They exist in certain Mormon sects in Utah like the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints. I don't know of any woman who would enter this arrangement. For what? To live a life of desperation and jealousy. Who wants to share their man? By the way, many men are under the assumption that polygamy is good for men because he gets to have multiple women. What they don't realize is about 20% of males get all the women - the other 80% live a life of loneliness or are exiled from the group. In Utah, they call these banished men (boys) "lost boys". You can read about their plight below:

Yes, it sadly happens in some religions in this day and age. I watched a documentary recently about the Mormons in Utah, however I know it happens in some Muslim countries as well. It was interesting listening to the women who were one of the wives. Like someone mentioned in their answer earlier, they are indoctrinated since birth. It is sad to me to see these women believing that it is OK. That there is nothing wrong with it. They talk about it like it is natural. Sometimes religious indoctrination is a scary thing. In the documentary however, there were people in these communities that were trying to change the polygamy, through counseling these indoctrinated women.

Personally, I do not know about you, but I love knowing that I have my husband's full and unconditional love. Sharing his love with another woman or other women would be wrong on all levels.

I've heard about Utah, didn't know about N. Arizona. To me personally it seems like a crazy idea since I don't live in that sort of community, but I'm sure if that's what you're used to seeing and if you just wanted to be provided for and there was a shortage of men, it probably wouldn't be too crazy.

Marriage is a legal license for man and woman to enter into coitus. You people of United States are already having that without entering into Marriage. Then where is the question of polygamy or polyandry?

you probably missed that special on the discovery channel "my 3 wives" it was a documentary type series following this guy who had 2 wives and was about to take on a 3rd. I think its insane to do something like that but it truly does exist. There is also a secretive cult in Utah claiming to be "mormon" that practices polygamy. the real Mormon church abolished polygamy a long time ago and does not recognise this group. my cousin is mormon and told me about this group.

It's still going on. Some abused women stay in their sick relationships, even though there are Battered womens shelters. People smoke even thought they know it's bad for their health. I could go on and on. Some people are just too afraid of change. Too afraid to try to make a difference or maybe they just have lost hope.
Sad but true!

It mostly happens in places heavily influenced by Mormonism. Those women would go for it. Otherwise, maybe there are a few.

This is practiced everyday in Utah in the Mormon Church. The little girls and young female adults believe it is the will of God.

It can work if you have strong personalities, but then what you're really looking for is polyamory.
