I did this drive years ago. Its almost 1000 miles and not that much fun. I remember it taking us just under 20 hours but there were two of us trading off the driving. The road is fairly treacherous in places. Make sure to bring extra water. (We brought a 5 gallon jug and used it to help some people that were stuck in the desert. I don't think that I would drive this trip again. But... I am older and richer so there you go!

Edit; contact the Auto club to see if there are any new danger spots etc. They really are worth the money and know the route well. Just a thought.
