Try a restore

Restoring the Computer to an Earlier Operating State
If problems occur after you install a device driver, use Device Driver Rollback (see "Using Windows XP
Device Driver Rollback" on page 52) to resolve the problem. If that is unsuccessful, then use System
Restore.
NOTICE: Before you restore the computer to an earlier operating state, save and close any open files and exit any
open programs. Do not alter, open, or delete any files or programs until the system restoration is complete.
1 Click the Start button, point to All Programs→Accessories→System Tools, and then click System
Restore.
2 Ensure that Restore my computer to an earlier time is selected and click Next.
3 Click a calendar date to which you want to restore your computer.
The Select a Restore Point screen provides a calendar that allows you to see and select restore points.
All calendar dates with available restore points appear in boldface type.
4 Select a restore point and click Next.
If a calendar date has only one restore point, then that restore point is automatically selected. If two or
more restore points are available, click the restore point that you prefer.
5 Click Next.
The Restoration Complete screen appears after System Restore finishes collecting data and then the
computer restarts.
6 After the computer restarts, click OK.
To change the restore point, you can either repeat the steps using a different restore point, or you can
undo the restoration.

Heh heh. I bet he was playing around in the control panel. He reset the key stroke settings. Easy fix.

Click on Control Panel.
Click on Keyboard.
Change the Repeat Delay and the Repeat Rate.

Done. No new keyboard, no resetting the system. The computer was merely doing what it was "told" to do.

Completely uninstall the keyboard and it's program/ drivers. reboot your computer. Then reinstall the keyboard and its accompanied software and drivers. That should allow it to default back to original functioning. It might not be broken, but he hit a combo of keys that would cause the problem. After you do a complete reinstall, make certain you do an update.
Do a whole new reinstall before you decide to buy a knew one.

Look before you go buy another keyboard find another one laying around the house and plug it in if it works then you have to options take it apart and wash down the plastic part wipe down the rest with alcohol let it dry throughly then put it back together. Sounds harder than it is. or you can go the easy but more expensive route of buying a new keyboard.

Is your mouse button stuck? To be check, click into a text box in a word processor or Notepad etc. then unplug your mouse and see if you can type OK. If you can then there is something wrong with your mouse.

well i sounds like you will have to buy a new key board. unless its a lap top which you will have to put in for service. what has happened is under the keyboard letters there are little buttons and under thats are wires so it sounds like the wires have been mixed up. It can happen if its been dropped as well i hope thats helps. x

well, I would approach ur son or whoever used the computer last, calmly and say "wat happened when you used the computer?" and promise that you wont punish them no matter what and actually keep the promise. once you find out post what happened and I will tell you what to do. 9 out of 10 it is not the keyboard and it is something with the computer its self.

Sounds to me like someone spilled something in the keyboard. Turn it upside down, and see what drips out ...
