my son who is 5 months old spits up alot after almost every feeding and cries constantly all day unless being held (sometimes doesn't work), walked around, swung, looking at moving objects & etc... what do you think this could be? my Dr. 1st diagnosed him with baby G.E.R.D. & then said maybe he was colic. so i tried giving him the perscription of zantac he took it pretty well but still spits up and cries all the time. If theres any suggestions out there plz... help thanx!

he might need something stronger like axid. ask the doc what the next step up on the meds is.. my son had to go thru a few different ones, and finally a combination of two kinds to get any releif.

My daughter had similar symptoms and was put on Axid at about 2 weeks old =(. That combined with switching her formula to Enfamil Nutramigen with a tablespoon of rice cereal and giving her Mylicon gas drops regularly was the only thing that finally worked. She would wake up in pools of fluid and projectile spit up all day and scream and arch her back... We're really thankful this combination worked. However, she is now 9 months old and any time we try to put her on Enfamil Gentlease for more than a day she begins spitting up again. We're kind of at a loss for what to do as far as finding a way to ease her back to regular formula and eventually cow's milk. We were told it would be a long time before she would be able to drink cow's milk.

Ahhh.. I know this well.. it is Reflux . Sometimes they grow out of it, and sometimes they need surgery to correct the problem. It really depends on how much he is spitting up. My cousin had it and it took a bed sheet to clean up his mess, he needed surgery. My oldest son had it and it took a large bath towel to clean up, he out grew his problem. Basically, you are in for a rough ride, sorry that I have to be the one to tell you that. However, it will get better. Try feeding him smaller meals, but more frequently. Try baby Phazime (sp?) for gas bubbles in his tummy, add the zantac your Dr. prescribed. Lay him on his tummy over your lap and rub his back. It helps, not sure why. Also, put him in the swing on a timer if you need a short nap, but stay near him. Take him for long drives to to help keep him calm. Other than that, expect lots of spit up and crying.. this too shall pass. This is when you learn that tag team parenting can really work; and enlist friends and family to help too. Good luck!

He may have colic due to stomach being upset, have you tried switching to a gentler formula, enfamil gentle ease is very good, If he has refux zantac should help, but you may just have a colicy baby. It seems you are trying all you can, keep it up mommy, colic too will pass. my first would cry and scream and hold his breath until he turned blue, I knew he was changed, fed, and loved and there was nothing i could do but try to rock him and calm him down, my son had reflux and my doc had him on prevacid, it worked very well..... im sure you already are, but make sure you burp frequently and also ask your doc about letting hm sleep on his belly if he is not already, if he is having tummy problems, the gentle pressure on tummy sleeping can help. Goodluck

Is he breastfed or on formula? My son was fine when breastfed, but when we had to switch to formula he vomitted after almost every bottle. If breastfeeding you may need to limit your diet so it doesn't affect him. If feeding formula ask his doctor if they have a sample of a soy formula. Within 3 days of switching my son he rarely even spit up, and he had Acid Reflux.

Sounds like you have been "blessed" with a colicky baby. They tend to cry for hours without stopping, and have problems digesting. You can try a soy based formula if your not breastfeeding, if you are breastfeeding avoid all spicy foods. Tummy drops are a god send if you have not tired them yet. This always worked for me when worse comes to worse. Turn your baby onto his tummy, and tuck your arm under him so you are supporting his neck and you hand rest on his belly. Stand up and rock him/walk him around, this always soothed my little one. I feel for you, hang in there!

My son did this and was arching his back alot, it wasn't until he went in for his heart op that we were told he had Gastric Reflux. The cure for this was simply GAVISCON.
