no. love is sharing bad times as well as good times. going through things together makes your love stronger.

Depends on what exactly you mean by giving someone up so they don't get hurt- oftentimes I think this is used as a cop out for people that don't have enough back bone to change serious issues in thier life, which really just means that they don't really love that person enough.

I thought the same thing, I have a tendancy to hurt people no matter how much I like them. It all really depends on what way your going to hurt them? And how badly it will affect them?
