Wait till around the second week of October and come to New England! I live in Connecticut, but honestly, Vermont is probably prettier (and their foliage may peak earlier-you should confirm that). I've never seen anything more beautiful than the trees in full autumn splendor! It's more than worth a look, and if you like American History at all, there is a plethora of Americana around. But trust me, just the taste of the air in Fall is worth the trip! If you come, please look me up!

Well I live in San Diego and I think the UAE beats San Diego....I would love to retire there. 11 years ago I worked there.... in Abu Dhabi. When it was time to come home I wept. It is better then San Diego. As an American who has lived all over the US I thought I found heaven when I can here to SD and then I found Abu Dhabi. Try it you will not be sorry. Oh Dubai is nice also. Only an hour or so drive away from Abu Dhabi. Not what I expected and women have no problem. I even took the maid to her Catholic church which was next to a Mosque...surprising eh?

If you think Rancho Santa Fe and Beverly Hills are posh just go to the UAE.

What type of vacation are you looking for.
Australia is nice, and it's winter there now, if you are up for it. If you still want sunny, predictable days close to home, but something different, try Canada, Boston, Vermont, Philly. Willing to travel into low/bug season to have your own space... Roaton, Honduras, Central America. Rent a house and relax. Cheers!!
I know what you mean about vacation overload I live in Orange County, CA. I hear Disney fireworks every night!

I That is ea.sy to answer, depending on your $ status. From Europe,
but I don't reccommend the tourista tour. Soak us the flavors of Italy, Paris. by touring the countyside and the "real" places. There are many current books with listings for Bed and Breakfasts in all the modern European Countries. If not that extravagant, what else? From the shores, to the mountains and canyons.
speccifically the Grand Canyon. Or even
arkansas. It is beautiful and quiet, with hotel, camping, lakes..
specifically, look up Petit Jean Mountain near Morrilton, Arkansas, about 40 mile from Little Rock.. It all out there waiting for you.

Go north and escape the heat. For example, there's a fascinating old inn, the Brookdale Lodge, in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Further north along the coast there are others. I know many people say Vancouver is a wonderful town. Or you might go all the way to Anchorage!

The Florida Keys is a great vacation place. Also, the coast of Maine (Bar Harbor, etc) is really nice in the summer and fall. Lots of stuff to do, and a national park too (Acadia National Park). Not to mention good, fresh seafood for a cheaper price.. :)

Come visit us in the land down under ! Don't be put off by it being winter!
North Queensland doesn't know the meaning of the word & tourists dive on the Great Barrier Reef all year round!
So much to see , a land of amazing contrasts but to those of us who live here , it's Paradise!
