A little ways beyond our galaxy (thousands of light-years), there are a few irregular galaxies orbiting the Milky Way. Beyond that, there are more galaxies, including M31, or the Andromeda Galaxy, 2.3 million light-years away.

The universe extends at least 13 billions light-years in all directions. A LOT of galaxies inhabit those 13 billion light-years, with probably trillions of planets. We have seen 246 planets in other star systems so far, and they are only within a few hundred light-years of Earth.

In short, there's a lot to see.

There are more galaxies, lol. These galaxies are grouped in superclusters, etc...

Nope, the universe doesn't go on forever. It has a finite size and keeps on expanding. A torus is a standard example (yet we do not know). Think of it as a continuous Euclidean plane (x and y axis).

there IS an and, however, due to horizon issues we will never get to see it. the universe has a definite size, but it is uncertain what is beyond its borders.

"In general relativity, an absolute horizon is a boundary in spacetime, defined with respect to the external universe, inside of which events cannot affect an external observer. Light emitted inside the horizon can never reach the observer, and anything that passes through the horizon from the observer's side is never seen again. An apparent horizon is the boundary of a black hole by definition."

There are many other galaxies out there. There are even some theories about a parallel universe. Thinking about it too much often gives me a headache. Just be satisfied with the fact that no one knows for sure!

Homer Sompson proposed the idea of a donut-shaped universe. he may not be far off. Stephen Hawking says that the universe folds onto itself such that if a spaceship were to start from earth and travel in a perfectly straight line, it would eventually come back to earth from the other side. it's totally wierd.

believe me, if you were to travel in a space ship in a straight line at the speed of light, your space ship will never leave this universe. your ship with your bones in it will travel for an eternity. yes way. don't loose any sleep over that one.

The universe is expanding still. We are pretty close to the 'border' of expansion. Its pretty cool to think that were flying through space right now.
