Ok, so I've heard about that wonderful officer dying after being shot in the face. Only 23 years old and it was just a traffic stop. My heart just broke.

However, while I do not, under any circumstances, take away from this tragic event, why is a person who kills an officer is automatically subject to be penalized to the highest extent of the law, but a person who stomps a 17 month baby to death makes his $5,000 bond and walks the same day?

I just don't get it. Someone please explain to me why both of these men should not be penalized to the highest extent of the law?

My heart is aching.............

Although, constitution says the law doest say it.
There are law where different penalty is given for the same crime to two people depending upon both party's status .
Just here status matters Nothing Else..
We shud change this type of law to make real equality

I feel for you sweetie. I have sat watching the news with tears just streaming down my face at times. The world we live in today is just unbelievably sad & void of moral character & love. With our complete desensitization to murder, rape, stealing & such with all the TV shows & movies glamourizing such things this behavior becomes the norm instead of the exception. An even more fatal blow is that instead of following God's law which would require the life of BOTH of these "men"(and I use the term loosely) we choose to use man's inferior laws & that's why our crime rate is so high & why we have so many repeat offenders.

If there's any solice in this remember that God says vengeance is His. These murderers - BOTH OF THEM - will receive their just punishment. If not here on earth then most certainly in eternity.

I think it's an aspect of control. I totally agree with you and it's honestly sad what types of crimes people in the US are able to get away with. I believe that officers are put up on a pedastal as a method of instilling fear and thus making us easier to control.

I like qncyguy21's answer. It may have been wrong a few decades ago when the government was more concerned about the saftey and protecting the rights of its citizens, but anymore it is about making sure they keep us under control, and allowing someone to attack one of their own, and walk, doesn't acquire that goal.

Of course they should be treated equally, punished equally and beaten equally. I try to keep myself sheltered to what goes on out there, I know things happen that shouldn't happen but I don't want to hear about it. There isn't much that you can do easily but if you want to fight it out there are ways you can protest. The honest answer to your question is that the world is not perfect, our government is not perfect, and life is not perfect.

awe, hugs to you dear.. I hate that your heart hurts..
why? b/c no one cares. It is what makes the news.

the one who made his bond is the law...read the constitution.. where it says no bond shall be set higher than means or (something like that) meaning can't make the bond for a person who makes $50K/yr for $500/K

anyway, both situations suck.. tho as a mum, have to say the 17 mon old one does get to me as to why is this 'person' free...but as I said, he is free b/c he made his bond, legally...

if you don't like that, you have the right to vote to change the laws/rules..

The same reason human lives in America are not equally as important to those in third world countries or the middle east.

Simply, Lawyers and the swiss-cheesed laws they created. So many jurisdictions, no common law and defense lawyers who wile their way through those loopholes.

Because giving the guy who shot the officer the same treatment, would send the wrong message, and that message would be that the government doesn't have as much control.
