Yes, all normal children do these "silly" things.

In fact, scientists now know it is not silly at all. It is an important part of brain development.

In the excellent book "The Natural Mind" author Andrew Weil presents a strong case for decriminalizing and diminishing stigma from recreational drugs. Almost as an aside, he points to the natural proclivity of all children to change their consciousnesses through this type of play. Spinning till dizzy, holding breath until faint, climbing trees higher than is safe, inhaling helium from balloons ( both for the effect and the funny voice) intentionally ingesting too much candy, staying awake for extended periods, playing games with intense concentration for long periods, etc ...are all common examples.

Apparently, the nature of consciousness is to change itself and observe itself. Humans do this more than other species, but it is certain that all mammals engage in these consciousness altering activities especially during formative years.

Scientists are not sure exactly why these activities are important or exactly how each one helps brain development. This is clear; All humans do it and it does no harm. (unless carried to extremes or accidents occur)

It is also apparent that most of us give up on these activities after a certain stage of brain development. In other words, each stage of life has its own form of "spinning." We may occasional revisit them as a fun part of raising kids or in fond memory of such childhood frivolity. Most humans outgrow all these stages as a normal part of maturing.

If for no other reason than that, all these consciousness changing activities should be viewed as normal and positive life stages. Certainly, they should be done in a safe environment and usually with supervision if there is danger. However, there should be no stigma or worry that these activities are bad unless carried too far or too long.

Yep that was cool. Or have an adult spin you around by your arms, then let you go and then you fall over on the ground. Darn I wish I was a kid again.
