I'm sure you got the ice suggestion. On and off 15 minutes at a time. Also Ibuprofen, take 800 mg. (4 pills) every 4-6 hours. Normally you would not take that much but in this case you would. Any reason you don't give us the body part that is swollen. That is important because if it is your head all of this advice you have received is wrong. If It is your arm, then it applies.

hmmmmmmmm, you did not say where the swelling is and if from an allergic reaction or injury? if an acute allergic reaction you may need benadryl or a steroid injection or even an epip injection, so go the the Urgent Care or ER.

if an injury...ice it down 3 times a day for 20 minutes at a time and keep the area elevated. after 24hours, you may use heat to the affected area and continute to keep it elevated. ibuprofen will be good for the pain and inflammation, but take with food or milk as it is harsh on the stomach. follow up with your family doctor if not better in 2-3 days.

Depending on the injury, ice usually helps in the first 24 hours.

Put Ice on and off for 15 minutes for 24 hours and swelling should reduce. Make sure to put ICE in a bag or you might get cold hands! :)

Good luck..
