i think the intentional walk should be removed from baseball. it takes away from true competition. if the best batter can't swing, he sure isn't going to do much more than walk or maybe get hit in.

The automatic IW is in the HS game and I never liked it. It does not make sense for the batter to be intentionally walked without even seeing a pitch in which the pitcher must still stop and pitch the ball.

Throw the 4 pitches to set up the strategy of the force outs and go from there.

The intentional walk is used to get to the weaker batter and/or set up the double play ball. It gives the fielders a defensive move to work through the line-up.

I can see your point for saying flat out "no intentional walks," but the thing is baseball players are sneaky and they would throw more unintentional-intentional (not sure if that's really what it's called) walks. Meaning they'd still throw 4 balls, but the catcher wouldn't be standing up making it so obvious. They practice this in baseball a lot and you never really know when or if it was intentional because it's never 100% obvious.

actually, everytime I have watched a Brewers game this season and someone has gotten intentionally walked, the next batter hit at least a double. The idea was to walk the number eight to get to the pitcher, or walk a power hitter to get to a guy in a slump, but you take a risk of that batter connecting when you gave him an extra runner on base. All part of strategy. You can't take it out anyway. you could just throw the ball a little outside every time and the batter walks anyway.

Maybe then we should have a pitching machine replace the pitcher so that only strikes may be thrown. This would abolish the intentional walk or any walk for that matter!

You must be a Barry Bonds fan.

Are you kidding me, the intentional walk is part of the game, which makes the game more of a chess game in sports. If a player gets a walk, a player is on base and that could potentially be another run, so intentional walks have to be used at the right time.

There is nothing in the rules about an "intentional" walk. As such, there is no way to get rid of it nor would there be any way to police it -- pitchers would simply nibble closer, with a signal to the batter not to bother swinging, just take four wide, man. And we see enough "semi-intentional" walks already.

IBBs have been in the game since, oh, forever. It's not something broken that needs fixing.

Having the intentional walk takes nothing away from "true competition". If you intentionally walk a batter it is a strategic move by that team to enhance their chances to get outs and to win the game. I hope this clears some things up for you.

The intentional walk is an important part of strategy in the game. It is mainly used to set up a force out or double play and defend against runs being scored. It is also used to walk a strong hitter in order to face a weaker one who you feel you have a better chance to force into an out. In many cases in forces the other manager to replace a pitcher you may be having trouble hitting...

UHHHHHH well genius, how can they ban the intentional BB.... how tell me? lets say they do, pitchers will still pitch around the batter, pitchers can throw a ball in the dirt each time, or they can all together plunk the batter, would u be happier if that were to happen? its called strategy, why do nba teams foul a guy late in the fourth to stop the clock when they are down? should the nba remove that? WHY IN NHL do teams take out their goalie late in the game when they are down and add an extra offensive player.... STRATEGY playing the percentages .....

no it shows stradegy and it also is a win-lose type of move because it puts the hitter on base and could change the outcome of the game. Im sure people wouldnt mind getting scores on the board over having a hitter maybe hit a homerun or a basehit sometimes

I agree, it ain't right when they do that.

I went to the series opener against the Braves before the All-Star break and they IBBed Loney to face they pitcher. The Dodgers then PH in there best player that was on the bench and they got a triple.

I thought it was funny as hell.
