I know lots of folks love to hate them, but some of Cradle of Filth's older stuff is pretty cool. Just don't trust anyone who's been alive for less years than the band has been around.

My personal favorite album is "Cruelty and the Beast" (1998) but you might also want to check out even older ones. I wouldn't suggest anything after "Midian" (2000) at the moment, though.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "very heavy," but for slow, sludge-in-your-veins heavy I'm fond of Type O Negative. Not much screaming from Peter Steele, though....

Like you, I found myself in that same area. What worked for me is Linkin Park, Gorrillaz, Korn, Rage Against the Machine, Dissturbed, Marilyn Manson, and so on. But I still find myself just going back to the classics of Ozzy, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Megadeath, Metallica, and so on. But the ones I listed above I have found to fill a certain void.

Good luck on that. . .

Ozzy's new song is good (I don't wanna stop), Megadeth "symphony of destruction/hangar 18 is good, children of bodom - "lake bodom" and atreyu (some of their stuff qualifies as metal...such as "the crimson".

first of all to the user above, every one has heard of ozzy and disturbed! duh!

nah go for "opeth". loud fast melodic music. long songs, long fast solos, constant double bass, melodic singing at times mostly cookie monster vocal style.
