You didn't give your experience level!

Schwab is the best for newbie's and conservative self
directed investors.

Scottrade is "OK". Good price. Nothing more.

Ameritrade has a good reputation.

ThinkOrSwim is great. #1 software based broker according to Barron's and me. Better for more experienced traders.

I use thinkorswim.com which has low commissions and also offers free investing seminars. I particularly like their trading platform and charting software. I also have had my IRA at Scottrade for many years and they are good and low commission.

Try:

www.tradeking.com
www.zecco.com
www.scottrade.com

All three have low comissions and I believe won't charge you a fee just for having an account open.
