I know an American can travel to Cuba (legally) for missions or medical aid purposes, but what about studying?

Wikipedia says there were 900-something American students studying in Cuba in 2000-2001. Any truth to that?

Your first step should be to go to the website below, scroll down the alphabetical list of countries to Cuba and read the paragraph there. It is a BG world...I believe you will find you need to choose another place to study.

There are some studying there now.

Did you know that Cuba gives full scholarships to students from third world countries to study in Cuban universities?

You should be able to, unless there's a government sanction against it. Just check with the study abroad program for different colleges and universities and see if they offer it.

you can only travel to Cuba for humanitarian reasons.
You can not spend money in Cuba w/o permission of the State Department, which you wont get.
