There is no real answer.

There are several "correct" trick answers, although, I could easily find a whole in all of these.

HEre are some scenarios.

1. You can;t dig 1/2 a hole, because it is still a hole

That is the childless trick answer. Below are some real answers

2. If the second guy were to dig a hole that was 1/2 the volumeof the first, it would then take half as long.
3. If the second guy dug a hole that was 1/2 as deep, it would again, take half as long
4. If the second dug a hole that was 1/2 height, 1/2 the width and 1/2 the length of the first hole,than it would take 1/8 of an hour (4.5 minutes)

If a person takes one hour to dig a hole of volume X then it takes half the time to dig a hole of volume 1/2 X.

Also assumes a constant rate of digging .

You cant dig half a hole . (if trick question)

One person can dig 1 hole in 1 hour, so they can dig half a hole in half an hour.

You can't dig half a hole, anything you dig becomes a complete hole in itself.
If you try to dig half a hole you will create a rift in the space time continuum, and that's not good for anyone.
