With all fords after 1995, the keys have to be special ordered from the Dealership. This is because they have a special Chip inside that talks to the car when they are put in the ignition. Its just an anti-theft device, but it causes a lot of trouble.

if you have NO keys what so ever then your probably going to have to change the switch if its a new car 2000 and up then you have to take it to the dealer or at least a locksmith that can program a chip cuz most likely your key had a chip in it so the car wont start if the chip isn't close by the will end up puting in a new switch and a new set of keys shood be given to you but it will be a heft cost but if it's an older car then just change the ignition switch and the door lockswitch so you can get in the car and out on older cars it's not that expensive

I know that some cars have special computerchips in the keys, that need to be replaced at the dealership. The best way to find out if this is true for her would be to contact the dealership.

Look in your Owner's Manual. It may have a code for your key somewhere in it.
Second. Take the VIN # to a ford dealer and see if they can make a key to fit it. They may have the proper info to know how the key is made. I would try to find the old key and then make sure you have one or two extra sets made. They are only a buck or so. Good luck. Pops

she needs to take the VIN# off the dashboard(on drivers side just behind windshield viewed from outside)- a little metal tag. Take that number to the dealer with proof of ownership of the vehicle and they can look up and cut you a key for the car. This will work so long as nothing has been changed(ignition switch or door locks)

No towing is required. Call the dealership with your cars VIN and they can cut you another key... I suggest you get 2 cut for when this happensagain.

Some cars have a key code, she should call the dealership she bought the car from tomorrow and ask them if this car has one. They can make the key for her car if it has one.

if u know the selling dealership, they usually have the key codes to make new keys. u may have to prove ownership so take your registration with u to the dealership. locksmiths can duplicate as well put the dealer is easier
