Some probably just don't care, some don't think of the consequences or how it will affect their significant other until they are faced with it, some out of boredom in the bedroom and hoping their other wont find out not wanting to hurt them. I think cheaters probably have different reasons for it.

The answer is both, or neither, or either, depending on the person and the situation.
Some really don't think past what they want, and what they think they need, and the other person doesn't really come into it. They become so tied into what they want they don't see consequences at all.
Some believe that they can get away with it. That they are some how omnipitent, and beyond blame.
For others they will make the home situation unbearable, in order to justify what they want to do anyway. They will pick fights, they will actively set out to upset the partner, withhold love and affection, and then say "Well, I tried"
Some lack the courage to go out there on their own while they look, preferring to keep the other partner there just in case it doesn't work out.
And for a few it will be a deliberate act of defiance - set to hurt the other partner, for whatever perceived slight they feel they need to justify it.
But cheating is always an act of selfishness.

I believe some people do it because they think they can get away with it, and others cheat because they want to get back at their spouse for something they did to them.

The fact that you gotta ask this....show's that you would be the type to create drama between a man and his mother.
His mother raised him for 18 years...or more. And you...what have you done for him that you would consider yourself a priority over that?
It will take a lot more than a few years of marriage thats for sure.
EDIT: This answer doesn't make any sense for this question. It was meant for a question on mothers vs wife...weird. I don't know how I even clicked on this one.
By the way...the need to cheat is for sexual variety just like when you were single.

They obviously don't care if they hurt their spouse or they wouldn't be in the position of cheating.

Both...it just depends on the situation. Some folks actually believe it's okay to cheat...like it's part of being in a relationship or something.
The good news: there is life after being cheated on...

sometime people don't even know there going to cheat it could be a friend of you trust for reasons only you know or that thing you won't do in bed who knows

in my opion. they only think of there selves and not there spouces feelings on this matter in time it will come back upon them when least expected . in my opion/
