Maybe so people will look to see which way the danger is coming from so they will know which way to duck. And also, perhaps, to avoid confusion. My dad once yelled "duck! duck!" while driving in Colorado and everybody cringed, expecting a boulder to hit us. Until we realized he was pointing at some ducks crossing the road. True story!

Why do we say duck when we really want them to look out? There are no fowls anywhere but were hollering our heads off at the imaginary birds. crazy people that we are. lol
