Documented meteor collision with our moon? Asteroid collision? Astronomy question.

NASA astronomers watched a new crater on the moon form on May 2, 2006 - they saw a meteor hit the Sea of Clouds (Mare Nubium). They estimated it struck with 17 billion joules of kinetic energy (about tje same as 4 tons of TNT).
The impact created a bright fireball which we video-recorded using a 10-inch telescope.
Lunar impacts have been seen before but this was the best-ever recording of an explosion in progress.

absolutely. As far as whether the asteroid/meteor was named and seen prior to impact, I don not know.
But those craters came from somewhere....
edit: so I dug a bit deeper..... and found a nasa link to document a meteor impact

Look at the surface. Each crater was a collision.
