I normally stick with the factory brand or Mobil one. Bmw recommends oil changes every 15K with full synthetic oil. However, since I change the oil more often, say every 7,500 miles.....will this oil be a good choice too? The price on this one is a good deal when purchased as a gallon.

I'm thinking all synthetic oil brand's are all similar. I change the oil very often since I drive a lot, about 30K miles per year. With all the frequent changes, I thought saving a little money is not a bad idea. This is for a 2006 325i.

I agree with wayne C. I have Amsoil in my car and it says you can go 1 year/ 25,000 miles! I never get that many miles in a year though, but it sure saves money over 3 or 4 regular oil changes. My husband sells it. Here is a link to his website, specifically for Euro cars like your BMW: http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=1463115&page=storefront/afl

Brand does matter. Several years ago I read an article (online) discussing brand differences. Mobil1 got a high rating as did Amsoil. Both are true synthetic. There were others but I do not recall which ones. Several mentioned are actually Dino Oil. Seems there is a loop hole in the law that allows Dino Oil to have a change made to a molecule and Bida Bing you can call it synthetic.

I drive my truck 6000 miles per month and use either Amsoil or Mobil1. I see less thinning with the Amsoil and much less burn off. I also use a new filter that is guaranteed for 25,000 and a secondary in the truck.

Your changes depend on your driving. Mobil1 was a 25,000 mile oil when first released. they backed off under pressure from GM and Ford as I understand it. You can get 15000 easy. BUT YOU still have to change the filter based on it's life cycle. You can get 8500 out of dino oil in many cars driving a lot of highway miles, so changing synthetic at the same mileage is just tossing time and money.

Do some research on your own.

I swear by synthetics, even run synthetic ATF and in the differential too. That made a big change in the Mustang and I see a mile or so more per gallon in the truck. At the end of the year that adds up for me!!!

Synthetic oil itself is the idea you're looking for, brand makes no difference. I'm sure Walmart's oil is a major brand's make just relabeled as theirs. So, if it is a good price, you're getting a bargain anyway. Good idea on the more often oil changes. Bmw is out of their mind saying to change the oil every 15k, especially since some of their engines burn 1-2 quarts of oil between oil changes.

I look at it this way... someone has to make it, like valvoline or castrol.... wallmart dosent make motor oil, plus the oil has to meet the soecific standards the big names meet.

it's got to meet certain standards set by afi or sfi.check your owners manual and compare it with the standards on the jug.
