well...I got my epidural 5 hours before I had my son and I couldn't feel a thing!! I was induced and it hurt more when they broke my water than it did when i was pushing. And it didn't even hurt...it was more uncomfortable or weird.

Reading those answers it depends on a lot of things. yOur tolerance for pain, the baby's size/position etc. I had an epidural at 6cm with my daughter. It really wasn't that bad until my water broke. After that it was intense, but not unbearable. The epidural is the greatest invention known to woman kind. While I did have back labor and several hours of pushing, I don't know what I would have done without my epidural. I was more exhausted/frustrated than anything. With my second I didn't even go to the hospital until I was 9 cm and that was only because my whole fam was at my house and they were driving me bananas. The nurses could not believe I was just waddling around and laughing at 9 cm. The key was that my water had not broken. They gave me an epi and then they broke my water. I watched comedy central the whole time while I delivered my son. He was also positioned correctly which helped IMMENSELY. I probably could have done it without the epi, but why? It is not like you are going to win a prize for being in pain!

I just had a baby 11 days ago. I kept telling myself I don't care how bad it hurts I'm not getting the epideral. Well after 15 hours of back labor I decided to get it anyway. After that I felt great. I honestly didn't even feel the baby come out! I'd imagine it would hurt much worse than pulling your ears all the way to your mouth if you had your baby naturally.

Good luck!

Ummmmm, it hurts way more than that. I had 2 natural births. The first on was like OOOHHHHH and the second on I nearly jumped out of the hospital window. Sorry but it is worth it. I have 2 beautiful children

I thought it was the worst pain I had ever endured. I asked for my epidural at 3 centimers...I don't know how women of yesteryear did it without pain medication. I was a big winey butt. But after you see that child...all the pain goes away instantly.
