That would be really horrible...I've never heard of anyone writing a book after the original author was dead. That takes an amazing amount of audacity!!!

It happens quite a bit actually.

Brian Herbert continued the Dune books after his Dad Frank died.

At least two authors have written James Bond books after Ian Fleming's death. (really bad books too, nowhere near Fleming's talent)

Tolkien's son finished a book he started.

Multiple authors took over the stories of Conan.

The sad part is that very often the new authors seriously butcher the stories and characters.

I know, but it all depends on how true they stay to the author's voice...for example, one of my favorite author's is VC Andrews, great novelist. She died but there is a ghost writter still using her name and writing novels.

As for the HP series, I am pretty sure that JK will end the books in such a way that they cannot be continued. If they are continued after she is dead it'll probably be side stories and not truely Harry Potter.

What tha........................ ?

HP series = Harry Potter?

First, Rowling is alive. Nobody took over writing when she died because she's not dead.

IF she had died before the seventh book was complete, I wouldn't have a problem with someone carrying the story through to the end. She's always had TONS of notes, journals, doodles, etc. She's been a part of the movies (giving hints to the screenwriter, to make all the movies flow correctly), so with all that, and a really good successor, I wouldn't see it as a bad thing.

Weird question, though.

Well if I'm not mistaken they were still writing James Bond novels after Ian Fleming passed away.

Not sure what the rules on that are though.

actually j.r.r tolkien's son finished his fathers unfinished work on one of his other books, kinda recent actually but it was a continuation on the middleearth era. but HP probably would be boring after his school days unless theres a college of witchcraft and wizardry where all the hardcore stuff happens.
