Mostly good answers, and like Byron says, they don't remember anyhow. Most can't tell a signal from a "wave". But, because I think they should, I use hand signals at the same time as the blinker lights. I figure it's easier to see an arm sticking out than it is to see a little orange yellow light. Especially when the sun is at my back. It makes me feel I tried to avoid "I didn't see you". I've heard that too many times.

California handbook recommends against the hand signals for motorcycles (because how the heck do you hold the clutch lever while giving a hand signal?). Use your motorcycle's turn signals. The switch for the turn signals is at your left thumb.

Mostly correct answers here. But keep in mind that a lot of cagers don't have a clue as to what the hand signals mean. Especially for a right hand turn.

Left arm pointing left. I'm turning left
Left arm pointing up. I'm turning right
Left arm pointing down. I plan to stop

But like cars, most motorcycles have turn signals.
