does that mean i have to beat vayne again

Once you enter the Bahamut you can not save the game again. You have beaten the boss of the game why do you need to save after it? Remember Final Fantasy is a story, not just a game. When you are reading a book when the bad guy dies the story is over. The hero doesn't beat the bad guy then go find the mystical sword he could have gotten before he won. Once it is over it is over. If you want to go back and do more you can save before hand and finish up your side quests.

Like most FF games you can't save after the final boss battle. FFX-2 is the ONLY FF game that had the "New Game Plus" option. You can start off of your last save, which was before you fought Vayne.
