I was never popular and I cheered.
Any coach who wants a good team will pick the kids who bring something to the squad. I say try out and hope for that kind of coach.

I was a cheerleader and it shouldn't be all about the popularity of the girl, it should be about her skills. You go in there, and tumble, and jump, cheer, always be up beat and KEEP SMILING!!! Show them what you have to offer to the team, which from the sounds of it (10 years of tumbling) is quite a bit, if they're smart, you'll make it. Who cares if you aren't friends with the girls already, being a part of the team will bring you closer to them, just keep in mind that popularity isn't everything, and next year there may be another girl who's in the same position you are in right now. So make her comfortable, even if this year the girls don't do the same for you, that may just stand out to your coaches more than the skills you possess. Good Luck at try-outs!

You're learning that it isn't what you know, but WHO you know. That's a part of life. There should be an outside, unbiased judge to keep crap like you're talking about from happening during a cheerleading tryout. However, go out and do your best. If you leave there knowing that you'll have nothing to be ashamed of in the end. If the coach is any kind of a coach she'll want the best out there representing.

It does'nt matter if they are friends w/ the judges daughter. It also does'nt matter that they are all friends and popular. Just try your best. Smile, keep your head up, never look down, keep your eyes on the judges, and more importantly...try your best and have FUN w/ it. 'Cuz if your not having fun w/ what your doing, then why do it? I'm a cheerleader as well. 5th, 6th, and 7th rade. I'm going into the 9th grade and i have been practicing ALL summer so i can be on the squad. I hope this helps! Hopefully you get on the team! I hope i do.

It's true that some of the more popular girls may have a slight advantage.
HOWEVER, go in there confidently. Have a big, natural smile on your face; act optimistic. Try hard to perfect your skills during the audition. If you emphasize your skills and have a great attitude, I'm sure you'll have a good chance getting the spot!
