if the oil light only comes on when you stop or put the van in gear it could be idling to low that is a common problem with these vans you may put some feul aditive in the gas tank and it may clear up both problems if the van has alot of miles the oil preasure may be lower than when it was new this is normal when the engine idles to low the oil preasure drops causing the light to come on

If you continually checking the oil level, and it is okay, while the oil light is on, the sensor that makes you aware may be bad. But, if you have to keep adding oil due to the level being low, the problem is a leak or burning oil. Old caravans are notorious for burning oil, and a vehicle that old has to have a couple of oil leaks. The stalling when putting in reverse has nothing to do with the oil level, just another issue altogether.

You do not say what motor you have, but the first thing to look for is an oil leak. On the 3.3 L V6, the valve cover gaskets did tend to leak.

The 3.0L V6 is known for bad valve guides, which usually will cause it to smoke at start up and sometimes under acceleration

The 3.5 L 4 cylinder also had some valve cove gasket problems.

Ask another question, and list the specific engine, and you may get better answers
