i've recently decided that i'd like to do a lot of stuff for childrens' hospitals...especially for cancer patients, etc... i'm just looking for a few ideas as to what i could do....not just the typical, ordinary things that people usually do (not that those are bad)...but something to make the patients happy. any ideas?? i'll be getting together with a man--he's actually 62--but he's super creative and his wife is an artist...and he's sort of helping me get my foot into producing etc...which is what i'm studying...so even if there are any ideas you might have ...dealing with all of that...just anything! thanks!

My daughter had cancer in 1990 and now Walks with Jesus.
When she was at the Hospital in Kansas City, which was most of the time. Volunteers came in and played cards with her. Read stories to her. Sang songs with her/ for her. Colored pictures.
They just came in and sat with her and with me.
Having company helped. Both her and I needed something to take our minds off of the things my daughter was going thru.
She actually attended school at the hospital. (If she was feeling well enough)
I think the main thing for a volunteer is to know each patient and what they like and don't like and go from there.
Some may just want you there and not talk at all.
Little kids love magic tricks and love to learn how to do them, so they can trick other people.

Good luck.

I wouldn't have any enjoy volunteering in Atlanta discipline Children's hospitals, however I can undoubtedly endorse a position wherein aid is similarly liked, particularly round this time of the yr, The Atlanta Children's Shelter. It is a first-class institution that presents day maintain homeless youngsters and task assets for the moms and dads. The youngsters love spending time with the volunteers, and it's so liked via every person there.
