The average person runs much slower in place because he/she is taking much shorter strides. It really depends on the person, but my guess is the average person runs about 4mph in place. So it would take about 30 minutes to run 2 miles in place.

Suggestion: run on a treadmill.

You want to know how long to jog in place so that the exercise is equaivalent to running two miles outside.

There is a slight difference between on-spot jogging and actually moving (you get a bit more exercise by moving than by jogging on the spot).

Let us say that you can jog at 8 mph (a bit faster than an easy jog), then covering two miles would take you a quarter of an hour. Fifteen minutes.

Then I would propose that a 20 minute on-the-spot jog might do it. Do move your arms around (e.g., windmills) to compensate for the lack of real displacement).

If you are running simply for exercise, then it would take about 25 mins. If you are running to become better at running, then you should do the real thing or run on a treadmill because otherwise you won't be building the correct muscles.

Also, if you are hot, you can run in a pool with or without a floation device. Injured track athletes use this technique when they cannot put pressure on their legs but in your case it would keep you cool as well as provide you with proper exercise for the correct muscles.

By the way, moving your arms doing any kind of running is recommended as well.

not knowing how fast you are running in place you would have to figure it out by counting. Given an average stride when running is 2 foot, then for 2 mile your would have to make 5280 steps. with a stop watch or clock time how long it takes to run 250 steps in place. the multiply this time by 21.

I find that a brisk walk for me is 4 miles an hour. So it would take me 15 minutes to walk a mile, 30 minutes to walk two miles, and so on.

Okay, if you are running in place, then you are never going to reach two miles.

But seriously it all depends on how fast you move your legs, and things like that, but i should say 20-25 should be more than enough time for that.

I heard someone say that walking l0,000.00 steps a day was her goal and she had a walk metor, counter, that she wore on her belt. I also know that carring a 5 lb weight while swinging your arms and running in place is good.

Depends how quick you run, perhaps take a two mile run, time yourself and run for that amount of time at home?

A very long time. You wont be moving forward, which is a key component in traveling any distance.
