Blue states** are actually at the top when it comes to the median household income. The top ten states are New Hampshire, New Jersey, Maryland, Conneticut, Minnisota, Alaska, Virginia, Hawaii, Massachusetts and Colorado. If Liberals are so poor than how come 70% of those states with the highest household incomes are Blues states? The lowest on the list include Tennesee, Oklahoma, Alabama, New Mexico, Kentucky, Lousiana, Montana,Arkansas, Mississippi and at the bottom West Virginia. These are all red states**. Also the 70% of the top ten richest cities per capita*** are in Blue States. Because many people don't make the distinction between wanting to fund social welfare programs because you think they are good for the community, and wanting to fund social welfare programs because you need them personally.

As with many issues, it's non-sensically treating two very different things as being equivalent so you can make sweeping generalizations to "prove" a point.

Not all conservatives to this. Just some of the more outspoken ones that give the rest of the movement a bad name.

You don't really want an answer you just wanted to once again throw out some snotty comment about George Bush. 1. I cannot think of one successful person that doesn't work hard. Obviously you aren't successful or you would already know that. 2. Money can only get you started it cannot MAKE you successful. 3. There are different kinds of intelligence. It takes more than "book sense" to be labeled as intelligent. You say G. Bush wasn't intelligent but how do YOU know. His grades were good. He is smarter than Gore and he is a genius compared to B. Obama. I hate it that you are lacking in all three areas but everyone isn't successful... Too bad for you!

Well, there are two major strongholds of conservativism. The very wealthy capitalists, and the blue collar workers. The pro-corporation policies appeal to CEOs, and the simplistic either/or black and white reasoning appeals to the non college educated.
The traditional stronghold of liberalism is the universities and those of higher education. The professionally degreed are much more likely to be liberal.

Sharon: actually, you are quoting dated information. There was a time when the Democratic party was the blue-collar party, but that is no longer. Surveys show the opposite now.

I've never heard conservatives say anyone of those things, but I have heard liberals make the claim of Republicans being rich wasps and are beholden to corporations, guess that's BS too..... Oh and if you continue on in your research you'll find red staters give much more money to charity than blue staters even though blue staters claim to be more compassionate...

I am conservative and I don't say that. I will say that a higher percentage Dem voters are poor. It is because of their social stances and wanting the gov to provide handouts. But there are a lot of wealthy dems too who think it is the gov's responisibilty to take other people's money and redistribute it. (So long as it isn't theirs). Also, cities are place where more idealism comes into play. Usually idealism is unrealistic but for some reason it plays well there.

It's not about red and blue states, it's about household income of voters. ***when people crack jokes about liberals being poor, it's a reference to individual voters. Someone pasted statistics of the household income of kerry's voters as opposed to bush's voters. Everyone knows there are rich liberals, just like everyone knows there are poor conservatives. I don't think anyone is questioning that. They're talking about the average voter.

At any rate, no one is accusing you of being poor or unsuccessful just because you're liberal. Just like I'm definitely not rich just because I'm conservative. :)

I don't recall ever hearing anyone say liberals are poor and uneducated. Liberals do say that about conservatives, but that's different.

What I hear said is that liberals are often elitists who don't have a clue about the real world for the average person, while people who VOTE democrat are often poor an unsuccessful, at least in their own minds.

No, liberals tend to be well educated, in fact most are educated well beyond their ability to understand.

Because liberals are--by-and-large--loners; and loners (not having many connections) are often struggling to 'make ends meet,'
