If you want to turn your computer into nothing but 0s and 1s there is software online you can get that will do it. System Mechanic 7 from IOLO has a program that will do it. You can download a free 30 day trial version of it. Download the erase program onto a floppy or CD and then activate it.
Then it will erase your hard drive.

U can't. Think about it, how can u uninstall ur os when u are useing it? U can't. If u want to upgrade ur os say from xp home to xp pro or from xp to vista when u do the install of the new os ur old os will be deleted. U can reformat to run 2 different os's but I really don't advise that unless ur an experienced tech. Running 2 os's can cause trouble.

Before formatting the drive, you need to back up anything on it that you want to save.
Formatting removes everything on the drive.
If you are changing from one Windows version to another, use an upgrade disk, which should leave your personal data intact while changing the Windows files.
It's still a good idea to have a backup in case something goes wrong.

Depends what os you're talking about. If its xp and NTFS, use your xp cd to format, If its win me or 98 or 95 you use a floppy startup disk to format.
