It used to be generally from the help and love received from others, but now that I'm getting older, I've learned to be more independent, thus allowing me to be happy due to the decisions I make. :)

Happiness is an internal thing. I have been happy when single and living alone because I was happy in and with myself. You can make decisions with all the wisdom of Solomon and have love and support by the shedload but still not be happy. You need to find peace within yourself, refuse to harbour grudges and bitterness - they work on you not the person you hold them against- and accept that this moment is all you truly have. Zen buddhism says that suffering is caused by wanting something other than what actually is. Nothing external will ever make you happy. This I know from experience.

To answer this question, I must really take a look at my life and decide if I am happy. My answer is yes. I am very happy with my life so far, and that happiness is my own doing as much as the doing of others. I have a girl in my life, she is the best thing to happen to me, I stay up all night thinking about her. I was brave enough to ask her on a date and she, obviously, said yes. My happiness is partly because of the risk I took and partly because of the love I received. No one is completely emotionally independent, no matter how excluded from the world they are. So therefore happiness must come in two parts, the happiness you give your self and the happiness others give you. To be truly happy you must have both in the fullest. I am truly happy.

It's both. The love I have received from others comes from the decisions I have made.

To ponder over this question , I , first, went back to a time when decisions, help or Love were not part of the agenda for happiness. I could go back only to my very young childhood.
A child appears happy and at peace with itself even without any of these attributes. Even when it is hungry it cries not with unhappiness but calling for attention .
I would think that whenever I am in a state of mind , equal to that of a child , I seem happy. That is , when without thoughts of different nature , expectations of different kind, feeling of being wantd.I am happy.

I'd say abit of both but really at the end of the day - you are the only person responsible for your own happiness even if you take the help and advice of others....you still make the decision to follow it!

I would say it's both. I've made lots of positive decisions in my life that I attribute my happiness to, but it would have been a lot harder to make them and I may not have been as happy with them if I had not received plenty of love and support.

I know it is from the decisions I have made. When I realized that I needed to look at myself and figure out who I was I knew then that I loved myself. My happiness comes from within me knowing who I am and also that I can make myself happy.

Neither. My happiness and contentment have been the result of my cognitive abilities. It has taken many decades to learn this, but on learning it, the benefits are definitely enjoyable.
If happiness is connected to action, then you will only be happy when you can do as you want. Since we are not always able to do what we want, you are likely to be unhappy.
If happiness is connected to the action of others, then you will only be happy when people do what you want. People will not always do what you want, so you are likely to be unhappy.
That is, how we define happiness is also how we create unhappiness.

The decisions I have made were influenced by the people around me (the good and bad).
