I'm suggesting the same as you suggested yourself. Try to avoid all Harry Potter related news, especially on the Internet. It will be buzzing with spoilers. Be aware that Yahoo! and other websites with news updates around the world will probably have something on Harry Potter. There is a 99.9% chance that within 24 hours after the book is published, there will be a list of spoilers on the Internet that will spoil the book for you.
Purchase the book ASAP and read it as soon as you get your hands on it.

To the girl who was talking about the jerks shouting out the ending: That would really suck.
Good thing mines being shipped straight to my house! If I don't have the book by the time I wake up on the 21st, I'm shutting off my internet, refuseing to speak to any of my HP friends, not looking at the nearest newspaper, and if I watch TV I'll make sure to stay away with anything talkshow or newsrelated, and I probably won't listen to my radio.
I'll probably spend my time re-reviewing some of the past HP books and playing my DS until the book arrives. After it is finally in my hands I will then repeat the above tactics, lock myself in my room, and listen to my iPod while I read so I won't here my brother running through the house screaming any spoliers he may have found. Luckily he's pretty stupid when it comes to looking things up on the internet. ;)
And yes, when it comes to HP I leave nothing to chance.

As soon as the 7th book comes out (21st of July at midnight) DO NOT talk to anyone unless you know for sure they do not read Harry Potter.
Likewise stay away from your computer and email.
Just go to your room, lock it, and read the book. If you're a true fan you should be able to read the book straight through with no breaks lol.

I'm not understanding your fear of HP spoilers in e-mail. Are you getting so many e-mails containing spoilers and nothing else that you don't want to check your e-mail altogether? I haven't come across a single spoiler thus far anywhere that I wasn't able to just move away from, so I'm not sure what the concern is. Just don't click on links where there will be spoilers.

Try to do something to distract yourself like study, work, get a hobby, spend time with family and friends, take a vacation, or read something much better than Harry Potter like:
Maximum Ride series by James Patterson
Eragon by Christopher Paolini
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream by Hunter S. Thompson
A Brief History of Everything by Ken Wilbur
Seven Kinds of Smart by Thomas Armstrong
The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene

I will not be watching tv, listening to the radio, using the internet, or going out in public until I finish that book. I do not want it spoiled.

i hate harry potter spoliers. they are very hard to get away from. if you hear someone talk about it in person run away. the only way to avoid it in email is not check it or if the subject of the email is harry potter, dont read the email

I certainly am holing up with the book until I finish. I heard some smart alecks are planning to go to the bookstore, flip to the end, yell it out to the line behind them and leave. Bums!I hope they DON'T DO THAT. Why does someone always try to spoil it for the others????

I was thinking along the same lines... Avoiding all sources of media, plus all my friends that I know will be reading it... until I've got through the thing.
It's a method that worked for OOTP and HBP, at least.
