Alrite I know that I can just buy a pattern, but I can't find one for a small jacket like the kind I want. So my question is , how exactly do I go about making a women's short jacket? I dont need every detail but the basic guidelines.

When I say short jacket I mean like this one:

You could start with this jacket, lop off the sleeves and the bottom, and add the gathered peplum.

That particular one is going to be almost the same as making a shirtwaist dress, because of the peplum at the waist. I think that if you can find a shirtwaist dress pattern, it would go a long way to getting you where you want to go. All you'd have to do is change the sleeves (a "cap" instead of a regular sleeve), and the ruffle at the waist, and you should be in business.

Good luck!
