LOL. I am kind of in the same position as I will be living in Thailand for 3 months (and maybe more) starting in August and I am yet to tell my mother because she is not going to be very happy to hear about it.

Here is what I was planning to tell her:

In a very excited and happy voice I was going to say:

"Guess what?! I got a really good job! " Then launch into a description of how great the job is etc. before I tell her where it is. Hopefully by that time she will be too happy for me to want to dampen my happiness by saying anything negative. :)

Ofcourse I haven't tested this yet. But try it. It might work for you. :)

Assuming you're old enough to move out and be on your own this is what I'd say, "mom, i think we both know i'm not happy here in australia and as much as it'll hurt being so far away from you i feel like i have to make the decision that's right for me. I'm moving back to Fiji." the conversation will take it's course from there...but you need to stick to your guns and let her know that you're an adult and feel like your life it's at a stand still right now and you need to do what makes you happy. take it from me...you do NOT want anyone to hold you back from what you want out of life; it goes by so fast and one day you will look back and actually be upset at the person that you feel "held you back" from doing what you wanted to do. Don't let anything or anyone hold you back from what you want...you will end up with nothing but regrets and bitterness for them. Good-luck.

Let her know you want to go back, but don't say the word "permanently". Leave your doors open. Someday you may want to live somewhere totally different, and she won't be so hurt that you want to leave "permanently".

Wish you my best.
