Hi, some friends and I are planning on going to Vegas in October. we are all college students so we are looking for something cheap but good. something close to the strip / las vegas convention center. does anyone know any good places?

a handful of extended stays one block off the strip. maybe better for your budget

You know, for $120/night you can get a really decent, if not GREAT hotel room (4 or 5 stars), especially if you're staying in the middle of the week. Watch out for added resort fees though -- some hotels have them and some don't -- they can add an additional $20/night to your stay. Planet Hollywood is a great choice, and there are no resort fees there. You can also check out other hotel deals through the official Las Vegas tourism site.

If your looking for a rather cheap but nice hotel try out Paris. If you plan ahead you can book a room for less than $100 a night. It's a rather new hotel but still is fairly cheap. It has a great location right in the heart of the strip right across from Bellagio. It also has great food and a great environment.

First off I want to suggest you consider Downtown. Everything is less money. The food, gambling and drinks. It is about half the price. But if you want to stay near the strip try the Super 8 that is next to Ellis Island casino is a great hotel and a great location. Ellis island offers some cheep food and a great micro beer. Terribles is 5 minutes from the Flamingo and just down the street from the Hard Rock. I would cost half what is on the strip. The rooms are big. Go to Vegas.com and see what the price is for this.

Circus Circus, the Riviera and Stratosphere are all in expensive, and are all at the north end of the Strip. Most hotels downtown are also inexpensive.
