So I finally put together my rig and finished it and turned it on and thought I was succesful, until it turned off by itself all of a sudden, before I could boot in the Vista OEM fully. I thought the problem was the PSU that came with the case so I went out and got a 600 watt PSU and that didn't help either because it still does the same thing =\.

I really have no idea what it could be, the heatsink fan I put on the CPU clicked down one 2 sides also, but not on the other 2 as i didnt want to apply too much pressure, but it seemed like it stayed in place anyway. So I really need help, what the hell is wrong? Is there something I'm doing wrong ... please HELPPP I'm going crazy =(

The heat sink is not on properly. all the clips must be fastened also make sure you took anything that may be covering the heat tape on the bottom of the heat sink.

AMD cpus ship with a thin plastic cover over the heat tape

good luck and be careful

OK, My best guess, it's overheating. Take the heatsink out, apply heatsink-grease (white or gray sticky stuff from radioshack) and put the heatsink back. Make sure it seats firmly.

You can usually check the CPU temp in the BIOS setup mode right after booting (pressing F2 or something like that). Look for voltage and temperature sensors on one of those screens...

first thing i would advise is go into the bios of the motherboard and watch the cpu temps for awhile to see if maybe it is overheating. check to see what the avg temp rangs for you cpu is. if so that must be corrected before anything else. i know vista did require alot of rebooting when i installed it on my new rig or if you did manage to get the vista installed fully it may need to be reinstalled. also my socket 939 amd 64 athlon 4200 x2 runs between 41 and 51c with the stock cooling, but that is with a piss poor airflow case.

As the other answerer's had said, you have to make sure that all the clips are securely fastened over the cpu. The computer is probably turning off because the cpu is detecting no cooling or insignificant cooling.

Also make sure no wires are stopping any fans from spinning
