The results of Rosa Parks' refusal to relinquish her seat on the bus on December 1, 1955, say that you don't. Mrs. Parks' civil disobedience brought about the Montgomery, Alabama, bus boycott and the 1960s Civil Rights Movement led by a young Montgomery Baptist minister, Martin Luther King.
P. S. What is so disagreeable about merely repeating a civics and history lesson (2 negative responses)?
When I was a young child (I'm 55), restaurants, schools, public transportation, and hotels all were segregated by both law and custom. All this changed during the 1960s and early 1970s.

Need to? What for? This is 2007 and those days are long gone. If he is elderly or handicapped it might be polite on your part but certainly not required.

That's not funny you know. Do you know who Rosa Parks is? Look it up in the Library. Ask a librarian to help you. That's a creepy question. You're free now.

If he is old or disabled, yes, but I think you should do that for anyone who is old or disabled, and not because of their skin color.
