I think the best way to pursue your own happiness is plain out go for it. Don't listen to anyone or anything in your path, and set your mind upon that happiness you want to pursue.

To be happy no matter what you're doing. Happiness is the key to life and without being happy in what you're doing, you're actually failing because you aren't fully succeeding. Confusing but true.
