my baby girl is 10 months. and i've been giving her half a cup of gerber baby oatmeal and having her finish it off with five ounces of formula milk. i give her this about five times a day. i always thought this was enough.

my sister came over yesterday with her 6 month old son.. she's been giving him 1 cup of gerber baby cereal and having him finish it off with 8 ounces of formula milk.. she gives this to him about 6 to 7 times a day.

am i underfeeding my daughter or is she overfeeding her son??

my daughter doesn't cry and she always seems satisfied. i don't want to be overfeeding her either. she is tiny however, but i figure its because she was just born tiny (4 lbs. 6oz.)

Have you had her see a doctor or health nurse to determine if she is at a healthy weight? Babies are all different and this is why there is a large curve for weights and heights for both boys and girls.

I hope you are feeding her more than oatmeal at 10 months. By now she should be having a reasonable helping of vegetables and fruits as well.

Go to the site listed and click on "talk forums". Choose the one appropriate to your daughter's age and discuss this issue with the other moms. You can get some direction to popular websites on nutrition and weight/height guidelines.

Don't worry about what another child is eating. All have different needs according to individual body types. Your friend is not necessarily overfeeding her son. Our little guy comes from a family of very large men and you don't even want to know what he ate when he was 6 months! lol
He has always been very lean as well.

I don't think either one of you are under-feeding or over-feeding. Each child is different. You should be able to tell by how your child responds or reacts after she's finished eating. Also, how's her weight? Does the doctor notice anything in regards to her nutrition, etc. Also in case you didn't hear, be careful w/ Gerber...there has been a recall of their oatmeal due to some clumps not being able to be dissolved or broken down with water or milk. I hope all goes well.

Ummmm she is definately over feeding her son. My daughter is 11 months and is only fed (solids) 3 times a day. With 3 bottles of 240ml's a day. Sorry i dont know ounces but 5 feeds is definatley enough. Mayb instead of cereal you could offer a variety of foods, mashed apple, pear, banana etc. Babies at 10 months also need the 5 food groups. Cereal is not enough

I'm confused. Are you spoon feeding your child oatmeal five times per day? My daughter is almost 6 months old and my pediatrician recommends 2 feedings of solids per day at 6 months or older. Then I think when they are older like your girl's age you can increase to 3 per day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and of course continue to give the formula. I've never known anyone to give their baby solids 5-7 times per day. You should ask your pediatrcian if that is appropritate.

Cereal five times a day??? At ten months?? No way!! Your girl needs vege's and fruits. I think the both of you should do some more research on what to feed a baby... Your girl needs vege's fruit's and meat. Table foods chopped up finely of whatever you are eating. With some restrictons. These babies need mre than cereal.

Does your baby act like she's hungry all the time? Is she nice and plump? Is your nephew chubby...chubby??? Every baby is different and some eat more than others...if your baby is happy and healthy then what you are doing is right.

if she seems satisfied when you are done feeding her, i would not worry. im sure if she was hungry she would let you know. some babies are just big eaters, and some are like birds. if you are really concerned, call the doctor and ask.

Babies eat vastly different amounts and naturally girls eat less than boys in general. I'm sure if your daughter wanted more she would be asking for it.

Each baby is different...Your nephew wouldn't eat more than he wants and your little girl would cry for more if she was hungry...
