Live plants carry 90% of unwanted snails in an aquarium. The rest come from other items that you bought that was submerged in water. If you want them gone, you could add a small loach to eat them.

WHAT DID YOU ADD RECENTLY? i.e. plants, another fish, bagged from the store's aquarium, where it could've stowed away? If nothing you can determine, some idiot thought it'd be funny to put it in there for you to find, 'cuz miracles tend to run towards helping people, and short of the hand of God, it's the hand of a human at some point. Look for this point, and you'll find the answer.

if you have put live plants in your tank then they can be transferred that way. or if you have taken some ornimental decorations from someone elses tank they can also be transferred that way. To get rid of them, because they will take over your tank either use a product called Had-A-Snail, or clown loaches. both things wont harm any fish or plants.

They hitchhike in on live plants or objects from another tank. It is even possible for a net from one tank to transfer the eggs to a new tank. They are harmless, but you can get rid of them with any of the botia loaches, like yoyo's, angelicus, skunk, and striated.
